Breathable shirt

The long sleeve men's shirt is indisputably elegant. It can obviously be worn in all circumstances and all seasons. But we must recognize that in case of hot weather we sometimes hesitate to dress, preferring a simple shirt, a polo or even a t-shirt. The reason is simple, the long sleeve shirt may keep us too hot. But there are times when you can not do without, such as professional meetings or events such as weddings or other ceremonies where you have to be on his thirty-one. Unthinkable then to don a shirt or a polo. We must therefore opt for a shirt that we call "breathable".

What is a breathable shirt

As the name suggests, the breathable shirt breathes. That is to say, it allows to evacuate the heat of the body and does not generate too much sweating effect. Indeed, nothing more unpleasant than being engulfed in a shirt that comes, due to the effect of perspiration, to stick to your skin. To be certain of not finding yourself in this type of situation even if the climate is summer, you will have to opt for wearing a breathable shirt. For a shirt to be qualified in this way, there are two imperatives.

Breathable straight cut shirt

First, one will choose a straight cut shirt or classic cut and not a slim shirt or fitted cut. Indeed, these last two models are worn close to the body and therefore let only very little air circulate between the epidermis and the tissue. This results in increased perspiration. While a straight-cut shirt or classic cut, naturally looser, will give your skin the ability to be somewhat refreshed by the air flowing inside your shirt. So here is the first point that lies in choosing a tailored shirt cut, which will leave your body breathe and give you greater freedom of movement.

Breathable 100% cotton shirt

The second criterion is just as essential if not more. Care must be taken to choose a straight-cut shirt made from one hundred percent cotton fabric. Any mixture, cotton elastane, cotton viscose, or, worse, any synthetic material is to be avoided! Indeed, these synthetic materials, if they can provide a certain comfort, as more flexibility in certain circumstances, are formally to ban in case of high heat. Synthetics do not breathe and, on the contrary, make you sweat excessively. The cotton fabric, which is a natural material made of vegetable fiber, offers for its part a perfect breathing and therefore an optimal regulation of the body temperature. The straight cut or classic 100% cotton shirt is the perfect choice when you're looking for a breathable shirt. It will still take care of a small detail of importance: the thickness of the fabric of your shirt. It must be borne in mind that there are many types of cotton fabric and that they are thicker than others. A glance can usually be judged. But there is a classification that allows, for example when you buy a breathable shirt online, to navigate.

The ideal weight of a breathable shirt

The basis weight is the weight of a 1 meter by 1.4 meter piece of fabric, which is the standard weaving width of most fabrics. The grammage is defined in grams per m² of fabric and can therefore usefully be used to identify the thickness of a fabric. The lower the basis weight, the finer the fabric. On the contrary, and very logically, the higher the grammage, the thicker the fabric. Most of the fabrics used for the shaping of long-sleeved shirts have a grammage that ranges from 80 g / m2 to 160 g / m2, the latter quality of fabric being generally exclusively offered by tailors making tailor-made. In the ready-to-wear industry, the grammage is more generally between 80 g / m2 and 120 g / m2. Also, if you want to wear a breathable shirt, you will rather opt for a low basis weight, which will guarantee a thin cotton fabric and therefore better ventilation.

The linen shirt, the other breathable shirt

Finally, there is a last alternative. This is the long sleeve linen shirt. Certainly more informal, but still elegant, the shirts made of linen fabric are very light and gives a great deal to thermal exchanges. Which means that they are extremely breathable and are particularly suitable for summer use. It is not for nothing that they are so popular in countries with tropical climates. The white linen suit and the panama on the head did not become an image of Western Epinal in the tropics for nothing! Flax, like cotton, is a natural fiber extracted from the plant of the same name. The fabric that is fashioned with this fiber is particularly resistant, allows perspiration to evacuate and has an elegant appearance, with its slightly transparent appearance and weaving with the natural effect.

So here you are warning. If you are looking for a breathable long-sleeved shirt, you will need to opt for a shirt made of natural fiber, cotton or linen, or a mix of both, but refuse all shirts made of fiber synthetic. It will also take care that the fabric of your shirt is not too thick, but quite the opposite, quite fine. Finally, it will opt for a straight cut or classic cut and not for a slim cut or a slim fit.
